The Rectory in Březová nad Svitavou is permanently closed. A priest commutes from Radimer and serves masses every Sunday in Březová's baroque church of St. Bartholomew. The priest can be reached via phone anytime. The local population's interest in religious life, and actually in anything for that matter, is nearly non-existent. Historically, Brezova used to be an important business crossing on the intersection between Vienna, Olomouc, and Prague. After the persecution and expulsion of the native German populations after WWII, this small city began stagnating religiously, culturally, intellectually, and econominally. The local population has now destroyed all its existing sources of an income, including its textile factory, mills, bakery, agriculture, and forestry, and therefore, most of the inhabitants are unemployed. One of the previous priests has destroyed the historical baroque interior of the church with a hatchet during the 1990s. The local cemetery is managed by the city hall office. The current priest, a great man, has restored many local churches and chapels, out of his own initiative and resources.
