Poutní kostel sv. Jana Nepomuckého na Zelené hoře
A church on the top of a little hill combining Baroque and Gothic architectures. Built by Jan Santini Aichel, it is in UNESCO for a good reason - it's picturesque. The courtyard is currently under renovations, but the church and its area is still worth the visit, especially during winter when everything gets covered by snow blanket. It's very easy to get here and you will be able to find multiple free parking spots around the Green Hill (by the chateau or cemetery) only few minutes of walking away. You can also spend some time walking around the lake, relaxing in the park, checking the Žďár n. S. cheateu area, Basil or Baroque bridge on the main road.Highly recommended whether you're passing by or looking for an interesting afternoon walk.

Poutní kostel sv. Jana Nepomuckého na Zelené hoře
The church Zelena hora (Green Mountain) is on the outskirts of the town Zadar nad Sazavou - we had to ask directions at the tourist information office in the town center. It is probably the most important Baroque building in the Czech republic, with a plan of a five pointed star and characterized by complex symbolism related to the cult of Saint John of Nepomuk. While intriguing design, the place felt “empty” and lacked the “warmth and welcoming” associated with a place of worship. The buildings also need attention to prevent deterioration. The cemetery lower down the hill was still well attended and with colorful flowers. Note the church opening months and times: closed from November to March. April & October- Saturday, Sunday only 9 - 17.Don’t miss the visit to the museum and the church next to the lake.

Poutní kostel sv. Jana Nepomuckého na Zelené hoře
Still under reconstruction. I agree that the monument is more impressive from the outside as the inside looks empty with some nice mural. Only gave 3 stars because as a UNESCO monument not accepting euros is acceptable but not accepting card is out of question. So because of that I didn’t see the church on the inside.

Poutní kostel sv. Jana Nepomuckého na Zelené hoře
One of the best works of the brilliant Czech architect with Italian ancestors, Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel, is one of the most original examples of the so-called Baroque Gothic, that you can see only in Czech. In an incredibly elaborate building a number of symbols and religious and historical messages is hidden. The symbols are dominated by the tongue, the five-pointed star and the number five. The foundation of the church was connected with the forthcoming beatification and canonization of John of Nepomuk. Construction began in 1719, in 1922 the church was consecrated.Tip: if you are not a fan of mass tourism, I recommend special winter visits. In sunny weather, the church and the surrounding countryside have their charms, plus instead of buses full of tourists, there were around twelve of us here. Not only was it time to see everything thoroughly, but even the guide's interpretation did not have to be like machine gun and there was time for conversation as well.Úžasné dílo geniálního českého architekta s italskými předky, Jana Blažeje Santiniho-Aichela, představuje jednu z nejoriginálnějších příkladů tzv. barokní gotiky. V neuvěřitelně propracované stavbě je ukryta celá řada symbolů a náboženských i historických sdělení. Ze symbolů dominuje jazyk, pěticípá hvězda a číslo pět. Založení kostela souviselo s připravovaným blahořečením a svatořečením Jana Nepomuckého.

Since this place is already UNESCO heritage, I was very much surprised that the outside walls are in very bad shape and that there is ongoing reconstruction. The church itself is closed in winter, but you can still go thought the main gate of the complex and walk at the yard. Despite reconstruction, after passing through the main gate, one chapel inside of the outer walls was open and available for visitors, especially those that want to pray - there was a maintained altar. The hill itself and the space outside of the complex offer a nice view at the town and the places around.Be mindful when you plan to arrive by car, though. The parking place at the top of the hill is for 4 cars and that parking place is full of locals getting there by car just to go for a walk with their kids. There are additional parking places under he hill, but then you need to walk a bit on the road for cars. This place was not in Waze at the time when I visited the church.Since this is a church, there is no public toilet for the visitors, so count with that.I recommend to check when the place is open, and plan the trip after the reconstruction is done. Otherwise you see a lot of things from construction side mixed with the church view.
