We weren't satisfied with food here. The waitress's proposed dish (ribs) was so simple, with old bread. Wasn't cheap. Good beer

Švejk restaurant - Caffe Restaurant Praha
During my recent visit to Prague, I had the pleasure of dining at Švejk Restaurant - Caffe Restaurant Praha, and it proved to be a delightful experience that perfectly captured the essence of Czech cuisine and the spirit of the beloved character, Švejk. Nestled in the heart of the city, this charming establishment offers a warm and inviting atmosphere along with a menu that showcases traditional Czech flavors with a playful twist. From the moment I entered Švejk Restaurant, I was greeted by friendly and attentive staff who exuded a genuine passion for their culinary offerings. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, adorned with charming decorations that paid homage to the famous literary character, Švejk. The restaurant successfully captures the essence of Czech hospitality, creating a welcoming environment for locals and tourists alike. The menu at Švejk Restaurant celebrates the rich culinary heritage of the Czech Republic, offering a variety of traditional dishes prepared with care and creativity. I started my culinary journey with a classic Czech appetizer, the smažený sýr (fried cheese), which was perfectly crispy on the outside and delightfully gooey on the inside. The accompanying tartar sauce added a zesty tang that complemented the dish wonderfully. For the main course, I opted for the signature dish, the Švejk goulash with dumplings. The goulash was a hearty and flavorful stew, rich with tender pieces of beef, onions, and a blend of spices that created a satisfying depth of flavor. The dumplings were pillowy and served as the perfect accompaniment, soaking up the delicious gravy.Another highlight of the meal was the selection of Czech beers available. The restaurant boasts an impressive variety of local brews, allowing guests to pair their meal with a refreshing and authentic Czech beer experience. The knowledgeable staff were more than happy to provide recommendations based on personal preferences, ensuring a delightful beer pairing that enhanced the overall dining experience. To conclude the meal on a sweet note, I indulged in a traditional Czech dessert, the ovocné knedlíky (fruit dumplings). These delightful dumplings, filled with seasonal fruits such as strawberries or plums, were topped with a dusting of powdered sugar and accompanied by a dollop of whipped cream. The combination of the sweet, slightly tart fruits and the soft dumpling dough was a delightful symphony of flavors. While the food at Švejk Restaurant was undoubtedly delicious, the only aspect that slightly fell short was the pacing of the service. At times, there were slight delays between courses, which could have been improved to enhance the overall dining experience. However, the friendly and attentive staff more than made up for it with their warm hospitality and genuine enthusiasm.Overall, Švejk Restaurant - Caffe Restaurant Praha offers a delightful culinary experience that celebrates Czech cuisine with a playful twist. The cozy ambiance, attentive service, and delectable flavors combine to create a memorable dining experience. Whether you are a fan of the iconic character Švejk or simply seeking an authentic taste of Czech cuisine, this restaurant is a charming destination that is well worth a visit during your time in Prague.

Not bad, still not good enough to be happy with it.We've got a weird fee for not ordering a main course by 1 of 6 people ...

Helpful and friendly waitresses (they have a brand new crew), great beers and huge portions of delicious food!Although the restaurant was crowded and they were busy, they took the time to check that everything was fine and answered all of our questions. ❤️

A nice, cosy place. We had an English Breakfast (see photo), a big sausage - was nice and spicy, 3 fried eggs - were OK, few slices of bacon- also OK, just the beans were a disaster, microwaved dried beans not tasty at all. Service was pleasant. We paid Euro 45,- for 2x english breakfast, one cappuccino and one hot chocolate. For me, not worth the money...even though the atmosphere is quite nice.

We had the Domáci svicková od paní Müllerové (Mrs Müller's home made roasted sirloin of beef with traditional Czech cream sauce) and the Obrlajtnantova uzená Zebra, barbecue omádka, cesneková-majonéza (basically, smoked ribs).Mrs Müller's was not as good as we’d hoped. The ribs however were really good. In fact, better than expected. They look wet, but far from it. Service was fantastic. Only reason we rate lower is largely because it’s way overpriced in comparison to other restaurants even in the tourist areas.

My feedback is strongly negative and I'll explain the reason. I've already tried Svejk" chain in Warsaw and it was great: good beer and food

A total con. Great location but unfortunately for the trusting unsuspecting tourist, a disaster. The prices do not at all justify they are offering. This place gives the Prague tourism industry a bad name. To top it off they charge a cover fee of €2.50 for each dish ordered. We were also told that most places in Prague charge cover. This is absolute bunk. You soon realise that it’s a total gouging exercise because they conveniently fail to tell you about this charge until you have placed your order! But by that time, you would have spent quite some time poring over the vast, confusing menu…. (attached is a photo the pitiful serving of pork from one of the dishes we ordered for 369 crowns, with the dumplings which usually come with this traditional dish an additional charge yet again)…. Then they dare tell you tips are extra! We felt some empathy for the waitress having to do this job that she knows means she has to perform this demoralising dance that we tipped anyway (shocking!).If you want a superior option with a casual pub feel, go for something like Zakladna restaurant on Dlouha St. We had almost the same named traditional Czech dishes for dinner. What a world of difference! The same named dishes tasted far better, with zero cover charge, and at almost half the price including tips, and of course, sans the gouge-the-tourist bunk m.o.

It was tasty but barely any meat. Way too much sauce and dumplings.

Will never come again. The food is fine, standard Czech level but the staff are horrible. When we entered they only talked without serving. We were there eating with less than half hour, we finished 70% of the food and they come ask if we finished for a couple of times, hurrying up us to go. At last she forced me with 15% tip, of which with negative service
