Very beautiful place .. nice architectural marvel. The church of St. Lawrence was built in the vicinity of the Ducal and Royal Acropolis in the final third of the 11th century. It was a small but well decorated three-nave Romanesque basilica that probably lacked towers. The edifice disappeared no later than during the Hussite turmoil in 1420. The northern part of the basilica is preserved in the building of the Old Deanery where it was converted into a Chapel of St. Lawrence. Archaeological research revealed the foundation of the basilica currently located behind the fence wall and accessible through a small gate with a Neo-Romanesque portal by A. Baum built in 1880. The displayed artifacts include copies of Romanesque relief tiles found during the excavations. The tiles are decorated with motif of mythical creatures: the griffin, the lion and the sphinx. There is also a depiction of Roman Emperor Nero which is unique in the Pan-European context.

One of the prettiest churches I've been to. Far less crowded and stunning murals. Highly recommended if you're in vysehrad.

Komplexu vyšehradských sakrálních památek vévodí svojí mohutností Bazilika svatého Petra a Pavla. Kromě ní ale najdete v areálu pevnosti několik dalších zajímavých objektů. Jedním z nich je zřejmě lokálně nejstarší - původně předrománský - kostel sv. Vavřince asi z 1. poloviny 11. století, který byl nahrazen románskou bazilikou v poslední čtvrtině 11. století, goticky upravovanou kolem roku 1326 a zničenou roku 1420. Kostel měl na tehdejší dobu nezvyklou podobu i velikost - stavbu na půdorysu čtverce doplňovaly tři apsidy a na délku kostel měřil úctyhodných 25 metrů, takže přesahuje plochu rotundy sv. Víta a sv. Václava na Pražském hradě, dosud největší známé raně středověké stavby centrálního půdorysu v Čechách. Zbytky stavby zůstaly dochovány v budově starého děkanství čp. 14. Při explozi v roce 1760 byl objekt opět z velké části zničen a dnešní vnější vzhled domu s jednoduchou pozdně barokní fasádou, pochází z roku 1771, kdy byl opraven. První nález v prostoru baziliky sv. Vavřince byl učiněn už v roce 1884, systematický výzkum tu probíhal pak od roku 1903, ve 20. letech 20. století a pod vedením Archeologického ústavu v Praze v letech 1968-1970.The complex of the Vyšehrad sacral monuments is dominated by the vastness of the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul. During the explosion in 1760 the building was again largely destroyed and today's exterior appearance of the house with a simple late Baroque façade dates back to 1771 when it was repaired. The first finding in the area of ​​the Basilica was made in 1884, since 1903, in the 1920s and under the leadership of the Institute of Archeology in Prague in 1968-1970 systematic research continued.

Amazing place in the middle of Vyšehrad.You can see it from far away and if you go closer and closer, you will see how fine designed the basilica. There is a cemetery and park next to the building. In front of the basilica you can find a nice view to the city.

Красивое, величественное и очень спокойное место рядом с этой базиликой. Не смотря на то, что время портит храм, сотрудники и зодчие стараться предать ему первозданный вид и очищают камень от черного налета времени. В непогоду туристов очень мало и базилика выглядит немного зловеще.
