Valdštejnské domky
Old houses in old town. There is narrow street. Houses are nothing special. Good for short stop.

After the Battle of White Mountain, the Duke Albrecht of Valdštejn acquired the Frýdlant estate and with it Liberec. He enrolled in the history of this town by establishing the New Town with a large rectangular square (today's Sokolovsky), around which houses of similar appearance were built. They were designed mainly for drapers producing cloth for Vladštejn's soldiers. In the course of the eighteenth century, this square was rebuilt. The wooden houses gradually replaced the brick houses, their height increased, until the end of the 19th century the square was given a continuous stop. Only the wooden houses called Wallenstein remained in the windmill alley, built only after the death of Wallenstein in 1678 - 1681.After World War II, the fate of dilapidated and uninhabited houses was uncertain for a long time. After an unsuccessful reconstruction attempt in 1950, under the dramatic circumstances of being and not living the houses, at least their front, most valuable part, the industrial building school, which in 1953 moved to the neighboring, the so-called. Appelt's house. The rest of the houses were repaired and connected to the new school classroom. The wooden structures affected by the fungus and rot were replaced and replaced with new ones, which were customary at the time of the cottages. The profiling of the beams was preserved, mainly on their heads. The roof was again covered with chipped shingles.Since 1979, the cottages have been maintained by an industrial building school. Thanks to this, they have remained at least partially preserved as a unique example of the oldest way of building residential houses in northern Bohemia and the admired interest of our city.

The Wallenstein houses are the oldest remaining buildings in Liberec. Architectural style ca 14th - 15th century city buildings. They are situated in a narrow typical medieval alley sided by a neglected art-deco kaufhaus" which would add its value to the nearby square and the city as a while
